The Monthly Monitor – June 2026

In this June edition of the Diabetes Coalition of York’s Monthly Monitor, we share new research insights, health programs, and practical tips to support your diabetes wellness journey:

Research Insight: A new study finds that people with type 2 diabetes who engage in regular strength training — even just two sessions per week — experience improved blood sugar control and reduced cardiovascular risk. The findings highlight that resistance exercise is just as important as cardio for diabetes management.

Advocacy Efforts: The American Diabetes Association continues to push for expanded access to affordable insulin, diabetes technology, and preventive care programs while promoting health equity nationwide.

Educational Opportunities:

  • Penn State Extension’s “Dining With Diabetes” summer classes are open for registration — a great opportunity to learn healthy cooking and meal planning skills.
  • YMCA of York and York County and WellSpan Health continue to offer fitness and wellness programs designed to help individuals manage or prevent diabetes.
  • York County Area Agency on Aging provides ongoing workshops on healthy aging and chronic disease prevention.

Healthy Living Resources:

  • June is Men’s Health Month — this issue highlights the importance of regular screenings and preventive care for men living with or at risk for diabetes.
  • Featured recipe: Grilled Veggie and Chicken Skewers — a light, flavorful, and diabetes‑friendly summer meal.
  • Blog highlights include “Men’s Health and Diabetes: What You Need to Know” and “Staying Active Outdoors Safely in Summer.”

Community Connection: Stay engaged with local events, volunteer opportunities, and educational programs that promote diabetes awareness and healthy living across York County.
