THE LATEST NEWS IN DIABETES

♥️ FEBRUARY 2026 ♥️

February is a time to focus on your heart. This is especially important for people with prediabetes or diabetes, as the risk of cardiovascular disease is significantly higher due to multiple combined risk factors.

Learn more about these risks—and the steps you can take to manage them—including lowering blood sugar levels, managing lipid levels, controlling blood pressure, and using medications that support both heart and kidney health—in the American Diabetes Association’s Diabetes Care journal.

High blood pressure (hypertension) can have a serious impact on your health. Defined as a systolic blood pressure of 130 mmHg or higher, or a diastolic blood pressure of 80 mmHg or higher, hypertension is common among people living with type 1 or type 2 diabetes and increases the risk of heart attack, heart failure, and other complications.

Learning how to monitor, manage, and reduce your blood pressure is an important step toward protecting your heart and overall well-being.

The YMCA of the Roses offers Blood Pressure Self-Monitoring classes in February, March, and April to help you build these essential skills.
